State parks like Moraine offer exciting opportunities for the simplest and often times highest rewarding of all activities, wildlife watching. Patience and a keen eye (binoculars are a plus!) are all that's required. Look for herons, egrets, and belted kingfishers preying on minnows and fish fry. In the early spring, common loons stop at the lake on their migration north. On any given day you may get the chance to observe osprey "fishing" or one of Moraine's resident bald eagles soaring over the lake. While you're almost certain to see a groundhog or two on your visit, lucky visitors may catch a glimpse of fox or deer. Of course, there are plenty of other things to do here...

Barber Point, near the Lakeview Beach, is popular for windsurfing due to stronger winds and sparse boat traffic. A state park launching permit is required for wind surfboards.
